Michael Shawn Lewallen was born in Winston-Salem, NC. He inherited his eye for visual arts from his Grandfather, Herbert Lewallen, who was an artist and carpenter. He gave Shawn an appreciation for visual aesthetics and the natural beauty of the world. 

After studying and working in the field of still photography, Shawn went back to school to study film at North Carolina School of the Arts School of Filmmaking. Soon after he started working professionally as a Director of Photography, winning Best Cinematography awards from various film festivals for his work. Shawn has over 25 years experience as a DOP and Camera Operator in the film Industry.

Shawn currently lives in Wilmington, NC with his two kids, Hunter and Jane.
